This summer, Richmond Hill is going prehistoric — and the roar is coming from the forests surrounding one of the Greater Toronto Area's most storied landmarks.

An extraordinary animatronic dinosaur exhibit is taking over the grounds of the David Dunlap Observatory from Thursday, July 23 through Monday, August 10, 2026, daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The event, known as Jurassic Kingdom, is widely regarded as the largest touring outdoor dinosaur show of its kind, and this marks its first Canadian stop of the season.

More than 40 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs are stationed throughout the wooded estate, each built with robotic moving parts — swaying tails, breathing torsos, blinking eyes, and jaws that crack open to release thundering roars.

It is the kind of encounter that stops kids — and adults — dead in their tracks.

The life-sized dinosaur experience is designed as a walk-through outdoor trail, winding through the natural landscapes and towering trees that frame the historic 77-acre David Dunlap Observatory property on Hillsview Drive.

Visitors can come face-to-face with crowd favourites including T-Rex, Triceratops, and Raptors, alongside dozens of other prehistoric creatures lurking around every bend in the path.

What sets this experience apart from a typical theme park attraction is the setting itself — a dramatic, forest-draped heritage site that gives the outdoor dinosaur trail an atmosphere no indoor exhibit could replicate.

Every installation along the trail includes an educational panel packed with facts and figures, making the outing as informative as it is thrilling.

Beyond the trail, families will find a lively mix of additional attractions, including street food and drink stalls, a merchandise area, face painting, a giant trampoline, a bouncy castle, and a fossil dig pit.

Admission is priced at $20 for children and $25 for adults, with a family package covering two adults and two children available for $80 — all before handling fees and applicable HST.

With only three weeks on the calendar, this is a limited-run event that Richmond Hill families will not want to miss.

Since the event takes place entirely outdoors, organizers advise wearing sturdy footwear, as some areas of the trail may become muddy depending on weather conditions.
