Another Stretch of McCowan Road Is Closing for Two Weeks |
York Region is moving roadwork south, with McCowan Road between Bethesda Sideroad and Bloomington Road scheduled to close from Sept. 10 to Sept. 25 for paving and resurfacing. |
Drivers who regularly use McCowan Road in Stouffville have another road closure to put on their radar.
York Region will temporarily close McCowan Road between Bethesda Sideroad and Bloomington Road from Sept. 10 to Sept. 25 while crews complete paving and resurfacing work.
The closure comes as work wraps up on another section of McCowan Road between Stouffville Road and Bethesda Road. In other words, as one stretch gets completed, construction is moving on to the next.
The good news for people who live or work along the affected section: access to homes and businesses will be maintained during construction.
Other drivers, however, should expect to use alternate routes while the closure is in place and may want to allow a little extra travel time.
The work is expected to take approximately two weeks, with McCowan Road scheduled to reopen after Sept. 25.
So if McCowan is part of your regular route through Stouffville, a little detour planning now could save you a frustrating surprise later. |

That stretch of McCowan really did need the work. The road was getting pretty rough so I am glad they are finally getting to it.

Agreed, and it sounds like the region is tackling it systematically, as one stretch wraps up between Stouffville Road and Bethesda, crews are moving right along to this next section.
School starts in September too so the timing is going to be fun with all the extra traffic on the back roads. Just saying.
That's a really fair point, back roads that suddenly absorb extra commuter traffic plus the back-to-school rush is definitely a combination worth factoring into your detour planning.

greg_t99From what neighbours were saying, Ninth Line seems to be the main alternative. A bit longer but it moves okay outside of rush hour.
At least they are finishing one section before starting the next. Makes sense to do it that way instead of tearing up the whole road at once.
PatriciaVAgreed. Doing it in sections is way less of a headache for everyone. Remember a few years back when they had three different stretches torn up at the same time? Total mess.
Exactly, the rolling approach means one section gets fully completed before the next begins, which keeps the overall disruption more manageable for the community.
Good to know they are keeping driveway access open for the houses along there. Last time they did work on my street they blocked us in for a whole day with zero warning.

dave_from_stouffSame thing happened to us on a side street a few years back. Just a cone dropped in front of the driveway and nobody around to ask. At least this time they gave advance notice online.
I use McCowan between Bethesda and Bloomington almost every single day. Gonna have to figure out a new route starting the 10th.
Linda KowalskiWaze has been pretty good at rerouting during the other McCowan closures. Might be worth checking it the night before just so you have a rough idea of what to expect.
Definitely worth mapping out a backup route before Sept. 10 arrives, giving yourself a little extra travel time during those two weeks won't hurt either!
Two weeks is actually not that bad for paving work. Hopefully they stick to the Sept 25 date though.
