Richmond Hill neighbors can start Saturday, November 7, with a warm breakfast and a chance to help local families this Christmas.

From 9 to 11 a.m., the Christian Education Committee will host a community pancake breakfast featuring scrambled eggs, sausages, fruit, tea, coffee and juice.

Admission is $12 for adults and $5 for children under 12, and everyone is welcome to come on their own or with friends.

The gathering will also support the Salvation Army Christmas toy drive in memory of Jay Cook.

Guests who wish to contribute can bring a toy or make a monetary donation.

It’s a simple way to share a meal, meet neighbors and bring some joy to children during the holidays.

$70 is a bit steep for Richmond Hill but Matthew Good with a string quartet does sound worth it.

Drivers in Richmond Hill faced road closures Tuesday morning while York Regional Police investigated a reported gas leak.

The disruption affected local travel, but the roadway reopened later that morning, easing trips to work, school and appointments.

The available information does not confirm the leak’s cause, its precise location or the full extent of the closures.

For nearby residents and businesses, those unanswered questions may linger even as traffic returns to normal.

The reopening brought welcome relief after a morning when an unexpected safety concern interrupted familiar routes.

For Stouffville families putting off dental care, the Canadian Dental Care Plan may make a checkup more affordable.

But before booking, it helps to know who qualifies and what costs may remain.

Eligibility generally requires Canadian tax residency, a filed tax return, qualifying household income and no access to private dental insurance.

Insurance available through an employer or family member can affect eligibility, even if you do not use it.

The plan may cover exams, cleanings, fillings and other approved treatments, depending on your needs and its rules.

Coverage does not always mean a free visit: some patients pay a portion of the cost, and dentists may charge more than the plan reimburses.

Before making an appointment, ask whether your dental office accepts the plan.

Request a treatment estimate, especially for extensive work that may need advance approval, so you can plan care without an unexpected bill.

Good reminder to call ahead before booking. Not every dental office in Stouffville is signed up for the plan and finding that out after you…

Years ago, her owners left her at a boarding facility before going on vacation — and never returned.

She spent years living in a kennel, waiting for a life that never came. Yet despite everything, Athena still loves people.

She’s described as incredibly sweet and affectionate, and she has done well with the dogs she has met. She can take a little time to feel comfortable in new situations, but once she settles in, her gentle personality comes through. She is currently living with a Shepherd foster brother and getting along well.

Now Athena is discovering a very different world — new sounds, new routines, city life, and more freedom than she has known in years. She’s adjusting remarkably well.

Athena is spayed, vaccinated and receives regular flea and tick prevention.

She deserved better a long time ago.

Now, the hope is simple: to find Athena a loving home, a family, and finally, someone who comes back for her.

Households can visit once every 30 days, with food packages generally covering nine to 11 days, depending on supplies.

First-time households must have one adult register in person and sign consent forms.

Bring photo ID and proof of address for every adult, along with your own grocery bags.

Enter through the north-side door marked by orange cones.

Residents unable to travel because of a disability or medical condition may qualify for free home delivery on Wednesday or Friday mornings.

Good to know about the home delivery option. A lot of people who need help most can't just get up and go somewhere.

A Curated Luxury Treasure Hunt

Luxury Finds Consignment carries a curated selection of designer handbags, accessories and fine jewelry. It’s a good fit for readers who like luxury, but also enjoy the hunt for pieces that feel a little harder to find.

Fine Jewelry With a Persian Twist

Gold Glow Jewelry offers 18K gold, diamonds and pieces influenced by Persian and Middle Eastern design. It’s a strong Lifestyle feature if you want to highlight something more distinctive than the usual mall-jewelry experience.

Your Feet Just Went Into Hiding Until May.

Four small swaps so your heels are ready when sandal season comes back.

  • Swap #1: Swap “Ignore It” for Two Minutes With a File

Rough heels don’t need a spa day. They need a couple of minutes, once or twice a week.

Gently file the rough, dry spots after a shower once your feet are dry, and stop before it feels tender.

Urban Spa Wooden Foot File is slim enough to work around your toes.

If your heels are cracked deep enough to hurt, skip the file and see a chiropodist.

  • Swap #2: Swap Body Lotion for Actual Foot Cream

The lotion you use on your arms isn’t built for heels that carry you around all day in winter boots.

O’Keeffe’s Healthy Feet Foot Cream is made for extremely dry, cracked feet. It’s unscented and non-greasy, and a little goes a long way. Start small, because too much gets sticky.

  • Swap #3: Give Your Heels the Night Shift

Your feet do their hardest work during the day.

Let them do their healing at night.

Nova Scotia Fisherman Foot Balm is from a Canadian brand, made with Nova Scotia sea kelp, shea and jojoba oil. It’s meant for dry heels and anyone who spends the day on their feet.

  • Swap #4: Swap Bare Feet for Socks at Bedtime

This one costs nothing.

Put your cream or balm on before bed, then pull on a pair of cotton socks.

The cream stays on your feet instead of your sheets, and you wake up to softer heels.

The Beauty Drop

Winter feet don’t need a pedicure every week.

A file for the rough spots.

A real foot cream for the day.

A balm for the night.

Socks to keep it all where it belongs.

That’s the whole routine.

Congratulations!

Your feet are officially six months ahead of sandal season.

Now go put the sandals away. Way, way in the back.
